Accurate Identification. Confident Compliance. Complete Records.
In-Gas Direct offers specialized nameplate verification services to help you accurately identify, document, and—when appropriate—correct nameplate capacities of gas-insulated equipment in accordance with the latest EPA Subpart DD regulations. Accurate nameplate data is essential for emissions tracking, inventory accuracy, and regulatory compliance. Our trained technicians conduct on-site inspections to locate, photograph, and record equipment nameplates, capturing key information such as make, model, serial number, gas type, voltage class, and manufacturer-specified nameplate capacity (NC).
With the 2025 EPA update to Subpart DD, facilities now have the option to measure and correct manufacturer-specified nameplate capacities for closed-pressure electrical equipment rated over 38 kV. This is particularly important because manufacturer nameplate values are often estimates and may not reflect actual gas volume capacity—leading to significant over- or underreporting of emissions. In-Gas Direct follows the full EPA-recommended protocol for measuring and verifying NC values, especially for newly installed or retiring gas-insulated equipment (GIE).
Our Process for Measuring Nameplate Capacity:
Initial Gas Inventory – Record the amount of insulating gas in the equipment at purchase.
Final Pressurization – Add gas to reach the manufacturer’s specified, temperature-compensated operating pressure.
Accurate Measurement – Use a calibrated flowmeter or weigh cylinders before and after filling (accounting for gas remaining in hoses).
Final Calculation – Add the gas added in Step 2 to the initial gas recorded in Step 1. This total is your measured NC.
According to EPA rules:
If the measured NC differs by more than 2% from the original manufacturer value, you must use the measured value.
If the difference is within 2%, you may use the original or measured value—but must apply the same rule uniformly to all similar equipment installed or retired in that year and beyond (i.e., no cherry-picking).
Each verification service includes a detailed digital report with nameplate photos, measured NC values (when applicable), and equipment identifiers that support your emissions reporting, asset tracking, and compliance programs.
